Required Notification of Attendance Requirements from the

Texas Education Code EC25.095(a)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the new academic year in Bridge City ISD! As we embark on this journey together, we want to ensure that all parents and guardians are fully informed about important policies and regulations that impact your child's education.

One of the key areas we would like to bring to your attention is the importance of regular school attendance. As mandated by state law, it is crucial for students to attend school regularly to receive the full benefit of their education. Please be advised of the following requirements:

Required Notification of Attendance Requirements from the Texas Education Code EC25.095(a)

According to state law, if your child has an unexcused absence from school 3 days in 4 weeks or 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year they are considered truant. Truancy will result in the following:

  • You, as the parent or guardian, may be subject to prosecution under Section 25.093 of the Texas Education Code.

  • Your child, if age appropriate, may be subject to referral to a truancy court for truant conduct under Section 65.003(a) of the Texas Family Code.

We understand that circumstances may arise that prevent a student from attending school, and we encourage you to communicate with us in such situations. However, it is vital to prioritize your child's attendance to avoid any legal or academic implications.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy or need support to ensure your child maintains regular attendance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to assist you and your child in having a successful school year.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your continued partnership in your child's education.

Sincerely,

Don Harmon

BCISD Police Chief
